Gastroenterologist

Gurasees S. Chawla, MD

Dr. Gurasees S. Chawla will begin seeing patients at our Tom River location, starting Monday, August 31.  He is a gastroenterologist specializing in gastroenterology and hepatology, with advanced training from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center. He earned his medical degree through the prestigious combined BA/MD program at Macaulay Honors College at Brooklyn College, where he also focused on Business in Health Professions.

Expertise

Dr. Chawla has a strong background in clinical research, with numerous presentations at national conferences including the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and Digestive Disease Week (DDW), as well as published work in peer-reviewed journals. His interests include liver disease, endoscopic outcomes, and improving care for complex patient populations.

Dr. Chawla is also actively involved in mentorship, leadership, and community service. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Chawla enjoys stand-up comedy, basketball, and attending “Cars and Coffee” events, and is an avid New York Knicks fan.
