What is capsule endoscopy?

Capsule endoscopy is a diagnostic procedure that evaluates the small intestine, including its subsections: the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. What to expect during the capsule endoscopy procedure

1
Swallow a vitamin-sized capsule
During the procedure, the patient is instructed to swallow a vitamin-sized capsule that contains a small wireless camera with its own lens and light source inside. As the pill moves through the digestive tract, the camera sends images to a recording device worn by the patient for approximately eight hours. During this time, strenuous activities like running and jumping should be avoided to ensure accurate results.
2
Data is recorded
At the end of the procedure, the recording device is returned to the physician for data analysis, and the capsule will pass naturally and be excreted.
